Prominently featured at Luftgekuhlt 9 in 2023, this 914-6 GT tribute shined as it represented the 914 model in its most famous racing configuration.

This car started life as a 1974 1.8 liter and eventually fell into our hands after an engine fire. The original goal was to build a track car for Lotus Club and PDC group track days. We had just completed an engine build using some goodies saved for years for such a project and this was the perfect project for that engine.

With 10.5:1 compression, this 2.7 liter runs DC 40 cams, modified 1969 S MFI induction,  and has heads that were ported to 39mm intake and 38mm exhaust. A MSDS header set and Dansk sport twin exhaust complete the package and produce well over 250 HP at the wheels.

Replica 908 fiberglass rain shield assemblies drew much attention at Luft 9 and these were the very first prototypes of this new product installed the day before the event.

After having the chassis soda and glass bead blasted while on a custom made rotisserie,  we discovered that this chassis had very little rust to speak of.  The hell hole area needed a new battery tray and a small 50mmx 100mm patch panel on the firewall to correct rust damage and that was it!

A beautiful set of steel 914-6 GT flares were TIG welded to the fenders, and a Tangerine Racing roll cage was welded to the chassis. Using a rotisserie made very part of this project enjoyable and ensured the highest quality work possible - vision and maneuverability make all the difference.

Replica brass oil lines were crafted by Roger Hamlin to correctly snake along and through the chassis as original GT cars had.

One goal for this build was to faithfully reproduce the bespoke oil system of the GT race car.  We fitted a factory 908-03 oil cooler up front with  30mm Argus oil fittings and correct Cohline oil hose with dark grey cloth covering. A perfectly preserved magnesium 911S oil filter and thermostat housing, and correct filler and 935 style pressure release valve were combined to plumb the system.

Bilstein coilovers on all four corners handle suspension with original 914-6 brakes in rear and 911 S alloy calipers in front. The front brakes are just up to the task - upgrade is in the works.

The paint scheme on this car was inspired by factory GT bumper dual color schemes. We copied the Max Moritz scheme for main color with light ivory interior and chose a very retro 356 color for the dark green - Fjord Green. The blue green and signal orange just compliment each other so well.

On the track at Thunderhill this car is THE most fun to drive ( see videos) and even more fun than the 910 Spyder due to the 914's  lower limits on Toyo R888 tires.
